Gulf Islands Horse Association (GIHA) is a volunteer, nonprofit organization supporting horse enthusiasts and the well-being of island horses. Its mission is to improve, manage, and promote the community riding ring at Mouat Regional Park while strengthening connections among local riders. GIHA maintains the arena and its surrounding areas, helping provide a shared place for equestrian activities, including obstacle setups and dressage. Members can access the riding ring, subject to the association’s requirements, including membership in Horse Council BC for insurance purposes and submission of an arena waiver.
The association brings the community together through horse shows, social gatherings, and other events, and shares information about clinics, tack sales, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities. Its work is supported by members, donors, grants, and volunteers. Recent projects have included acquiring an electric lawn tractor to help maintain the arena and grounds and building secure equipment storage. GIHA also welcomes donations to support its ongoing improvements and long-term goal of covering the community arena for year-round use.
