About GIJTR
The Global Initiative for Justice, Truth and Reconciliation (GIJTR) is a collaborative alliance formed in 2014, uniting advocates, activists, and practitioners from nine global organizations. Its mission is to support communities transitioning from conflict towards just and peaceful futures, emphasizing the essential role of marginalized groups—such as women, minorities, and survivors—in reconciliation processes.
As a program of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, GIJTR focuses on grassroots engagement, ensuring that a diverse range of voices is included in shaping transitional justice models, which have often prioritized top-down approaches. Since its inception, GIJTR has impacted over 80 countries, partnered with more than 800 civil society organizations (CSOs), and facilitated over 500 community-driven projects, while collecting over 8,000 testimonies related to human rights violations.
Through collaboration with various organizations, including the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative and the Forensic Anthropology Foundation of Guatemala, GIJTR fosters accountability, legal support, and healing in war-torn regions, driving sustainable peace initiatives worldwide.
