Girlfriends in God is a non-denominational Christian ministry created to encourage women in their faith and bring believers together across generational, racial, and denominational boundaries. Founded in 1996 by Sharon Jaynes, Gwen Smith, and Mary Southerland, the ministry was grounded in the belief that sharing the Gospel also means sharing life and offering support through everyday struggles. Its work grew from daily devotions written by the founders to include additional authors and conferences, reaching millions of women around the world.
Girlfriends in God published its final devotion on June 30, 2023, and the ministry has since concluded. Its founders continue to offer weekly biblical devotions through their individual websites: Sharon Jaynes publishes on Tuesdays, Mary Southerland on Wednesdays, and Gwen Smith on Thursdays. The site also provides information about the founders, the ministry’s statement of faith and racial equality, and speaking opportunities with Sharon or Gwen.
