Girls Fight Back is a personal safety, violence prevention, and empowerment-based self-defense company serving people of all genders since 2001. Founded in response to the murder of college student Shannon McNamara, the organization was created to give young women practical, confidence-building tools. It now offers gender-inclusive programs for colleges and universities, workplaces, high schools, military communities, outdoor groups, and the public. CEO Nicole Snell, an international speaker and self-defense expert, leads the company, which reports having taught more than one million people.
Its award-winning programs combine practical safety skills with violence prevention education in an interactive, evidence-based, trauma-informed, and victim-centered approach. Offerings include Girls Fight Back, Students Fight Back, S.A.V.E. for corporate, military, and other non-student groups, and specialized sessions on spring break, outdoor safety, and solo hiking. Programs are available in person and as virtual interactive webinars, with large-group and smaller or private formats. Girls Fight Back also offers public workshops in the Los Angeles area several times a year.
