Giro Podistico di Castelbuono is a historic road-racing event organized by Gruppo Atletico Polisportivo Castelbuonese in Castelbuono, Sicily. First held on 27 July 1912, it is described as one of Europe’s oldest road races and takes place alongside the town’s Festa di Sant’Anna. The international elite race attracts prominent athletes and covers 11.34 kilometres over ten laps of a challenging course through Castelbuono’s historic centre. In 2021, World Athletics awarded the event a World Heritage Plaque for its contribution to the history and development of athletics.
The programme also includes youth races for athletes aged 12 to 15, a non-competitive Baby Run for children up to 11, a five-lap Vintage Race, and the Palio delle Province. The organization provides event information, regulations, registration details, news, photographs and an honour roll through its website. Supporters can contribute to fundraising for the Giro’s celebration and future growth. The event welcomes eligible local and international runners, with participation requirements varying by race.
