About Glacier Gardens
Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure is a family-run botanical garden and outdoor attraction in Juneau, Alaska, founded in 1984 by Steve Bowhay and later developed with his wife, Cindy. Set across 50 acres in the Tongass National Forest, it offers visitors an engaging way to experience the region’s rainforest landscape and cultivated gardens. Guided Rainforest Adventure tours travel by 18-passenger golf cart along a two-mile route, with guides sharing information about native plants, local history, and the ecosystem.
Guests encounter waterfalls, towering trees, distinctive Flower Towers made from upside-down trees, and panoramic views of Mendenhall Valley and the Chilkat Mountains. Visitors can also explore the lower botanical garden on foot. The company serves local gardeners through a separate nursery offering annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, and hanging baskets selected for Southeast Alaska conditions.
On-site amenities include a Rainforest Cafe with espresso and light snacks, a gift shop, and event spaces for weddings, reunions, corporate gatherings, and other celebrations
