The Glade Trust is a local nature reserve in Kirkby Fleetham, North Yorkshire, established in June 2007 by Sheila Ward and Mildred Durne. Its purpose is to conserve land for wildlife and encourage children and adults to learn about natural history through educational, creative and practical outdoor activities. The reserve comprises three distinct areas.
The Orchard offers a peaceful setting with fruit trees, a small pond and a Victorian greenhouse, and is used for nature education. David’s Woodland features ancient trees, including Sessile Oaks more than 250 years old, as well as a wetland habitat created from a former swimming pool. The approximately one-acre Wildflower Meadow supports grasses and flowers such as orchids, Meadow Cranesbill and Yellow Rattle.
The Trust also hosts activities and learning opportunities, including family wildlife events, pond dipping, moth and bird observation, and bird-ringing demonstrations. Regular activities include British Trust for Ornithology trainee sessions and volunteer afternoons. Visitors can contact the Trust to learn about events, volunteering and reserve activities
