Gleason’s Gym is a historic boxing gym in Brooklyn, New York, founded in 1937 and recognized as the oldest active boxing gym in the United States. Known as “The Cathedral of Boxing,” it has been a training home for celebrated fighters including Jake LaMotta, Muhammad Ali and Roberto Duran. The gym says 137 world champions have trained there and has around 40 trainers, serving professional and amateur boxers as well as people seeking fitness, instruction or community.
Its programs include boxing and fitness classes for children, women, seniors, veterans and neurodiverse participants, alongside Parkinson’s classes, non-contact boxing, Muay Thai and chess boxing. Members can work with personal trainers, and the gym offers trainer certification clinics, sparring technique clinics and boxing events, including amateur shows and tournaments. Gleason’s also provides memberships, day passes, private training and gift packages, with some training sessions available virtually. Located at 130 Water Street, the gym is open daily, with extended weekday hours, and operates a store selling Gleason’s merchandise.
