About Glen Canyon Backcountry Club
Glen Canyon Backcountry Club offers private guided day hikes and custom multi-day backpacking trips in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Its routes explore the region’s varied desert terrain, canyons, and ecosystems, with itineraries tailored to guests’ abilities and adjusted for seasonal conditions such as heat, snow, flash floods, and changing water availability. No prior hiking or backpacking experience is required.
Co-founders and guides Morgan Sjogren and Aaron Crosby bring extensive experience exploring and stewarding the Colorado Plateau. Sjogren is an award-winning author whose work focuses on Glen Canyon and regional hiking; Crosby is an outdoor educator and public lands steward with backcountry guiding experience. Together, they share knowledge of the landscape’s natural and human history and adapt routes to current conditions.
The club’s trips emphasize immersive exploration, careful observation, and a deeper connection with the desert. Its approach reflects a commitment to responsible travel and public lands, encouraging visitors to experience Glen Canyon and the Escalante River canyons with respect for their ecological and cultural significance.
