The Global Carbon Budget is an international research initiative that provides an annual update on global carbon emissions and their implications for climate goals. Since 2006, it has operated as part of the Global Carbon Project, bringing together research and information from scientists and organisations around the world. The Global Carbon Budget Office is led by Professor Pierre Friedlingstein of the University of Exeter’s Global Systems Institute, with contributions from more than 100 people across 70 organisations in 18 countries.
The initiative’s work tracks trends in carbon emissions, including emissions from fossil fuels, and shares research findings through its annual Global Carbon Budget report. Its website offers the latest data, figures and graphs, along with press releases, key messages, videos and an archive of previous materials. Visitors can also explore frequently asked questions about the budget and climate policy, and find information about events and activities, including engagement at international climate conferences.
