Global Perm NW

Global Perm Northwest (GPNW) is a nonprofit organization founded by Kaiser Permanente physicians in Oregon and Southwestern Washington. GPNW’’s mission is to harness the humanitarian passion of healthcare workers in providing expertise and resources to healthcare systems around the world. Guided by cultural humility, community and capacity building, interdisciplinary learning and problem solving, GPNW develops partnerships at the local and international level. GPNW has active collaborations with the following projects: Women’s health and rural health in Ethiopia. GPNW provides surgical and medical services to rural Ethiopian women and mothers with pelvic prolapse and incontinence. Capacity building initiatives have also been formed which train Ethiopian doctors to perform advanced pelvic surgeries. Medical education in Rwanda. Global Perm supports Portland physicians providing clinical mentorship to medical students at the University for Global Health Equity (UGHE). Hospital capacity-building in Rwanda. GPNW has set up systems to provide critical care to patients who come to the rural hospital with which we have a partnership. A training curriculum and tools for clinical practice, with an emphasis on nurse training, have been created. Innovative care for unhoused people of Portland. We have just completed a 3-year partnership with Portland Street Medicine which stimulated the creation of new programs.There are now educational materials and training to promote self-care and peer-care for the most common health conditions on the street.
