About Institute for Global Tobacco Control
The Institute for Global Tobacco Control (IGTC) presents the Policy Scan Project, a vital resource for tobacco control stakeholders worldwide. Since 2014, our scans have provided comprehensive information on regulatory approaches for various tobacco and nicotine products, including e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products (HTPs), and nicotine pouches.
Our policy scans cover 194 WHO member states and other jurisdictions. Regular updates ensure accuracy, with semi-annual outreach to contacts for regulatory changes. The E-Cigarette Policy Scan, our inaugural project, identified 68 countries regulating e-cigarettes in 2014. Subsequent scans have tracked global legislative actions in this area.
Furthermore, our HTP and Nicotine Pouch Policy Scans offer insights on regulatory frameworks for these emerging products. Detailed breakdowns by country, policy domain, and product classification facilitate easy navigation. Our rigorous data collection process involves in-country contacts and legal scholars to ensure accuracy.
