The Global Tobacco Industry Interference Index (Global Tobacco Index) is a pivotal survey aimed at assessing how governments worldwide confront tobacco industry interference in public health policies, as mandated by the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC). Launched in 2014 by the Southeast Asia Tobacco Control Alliance, the 2023 edition is produced by the Global Center for Good Governance in Tobacco Control (GGTC) with support from STOP, a global tobacco industry watchdog.

This index rigorously evaluates countries based on their responses to tobacco industry interference through a comprehensive questionnaire covering key indicators, such as policy development participation, corporate social responsibility activities, and transparency measures. By scoring countries from 0 to 5, the index ranks them according to their level of interference, thereby promoting awareness and accountability in tobacco control.

The Global Tobacco Index serves as a crucial resource for governments, NGOs, and the public, providing valuable insights into tobacco control efforts and advocating for policies that prioritize health over the interests of the tobacco industry.
