Global United FC is an international, nonprofit organization that uses football to bring communities together and advance environmental, social, and sporting initiatives. Guided by the motto “We love football. We love our planet,” it plans and delivers projects in climate and environmental protection, social development, and sport, then hands them over to local communities and continues to support them. Founded as an initiative by Lutz Pfannenstiel in 2009, the organization became a registered nonprofit association in 2011. Its leadership includes Fredi Bobic as chair of the supervisory board and Rainer Hahn as CEO.
The organization brings together more than 400 former football legends, along with some active players, and is supported by figures from sport, entertainment, and media. Its work has an international reach, with a particular focus on strengthening activities in southern Africa. In 2018, Global United FC established the GUFC Africa Foundation in Johannesburg to support this regional work. Through its projects and network, the organization connects football with practical community engagement and long-term environmental and social goals.
