About Global Voices
Global Voices is a border-less, mostly volunteer community that leads the conversation on citizen media reporting. Since 2005, Global Voices has been curating, verifying, and translating trending news and stories from blogs, independent press, and social media in 167 countries. The Lingua community, part of Global Voices, plays a crucial role in this by translating stories into dozens of languages.
They do this with the help of hundreds of volunteers from around the world. Lingua translators have diverse backgrounds, including professional translators, students, journalists, and language enthusiasts. They are credited on every article they translate.
Many volunteers join Lingua to gain translation experience and expand their portfolios. Each language in the Lingua community has Translation Managers who run the site, support and train translators, and review translations. If you're passionate about languages and interested in making Global Voices stories available to a global audience, you can sign up to translate or propose a Lingua site in a new language.
