About GLOHMED
The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, spearheaded by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington, represents the most extensive and rigorous scientific effort to quantify health loss across the globe. Engaging over 12,000 researchers from more than 160 countries, this initiative meticulously tracks mortality and disability trends related to a wide range of diseases, injuries, and risk factors.
With comprehensive estimates covering over 459 health outcomes and risk factors, the GBD provides critical insights that assist health systems in identifying areas for improvement and addressing health disparities. It utilizes data sourced from hospitals, government records, and diverse databases to produce comparable estimates for 204 countries and territories.
The findings empower decision-makers, health leaders, and researchers to analyze health progress, ensuring stakeholders can effectively address preventable health loss from issues like high blood pressure and air pollution. GBD serves as a vital resource in the ongoing endeavor to enhance global health outcomes and inform health policy planning.
