Well-Read Black Girl is a creative community and book club dedicated to uplifting the narratives of Black women, with a mission to introduce a diverse cohort of writers, including those who are non-binary, queer, trans, and disabled, to future generations. Founded by Glory Edim, the brand aims to address inequalities and improve communities through reading and reflecting on the works of Black women.
The brand offers an online community, in-real-life book club meetings, a podcast featuring deep conversations with authors, online classes, and a collection of inspiring essays by Black women called "Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories." They also have a forthcoming publication, "On Girlhood: 15 Stories from the Well-Read Black Girl Library," launching in October 2022. Furthermore, WRBG is set to collaborate with Liveright to feature women and non-binary authors, focusing on people of color and traditionally underrepresented voices in 2023.
By showcasing the universality of Black women through literature, Well-Read Black Girl aims to address racial inequity in publishing and honor the literary legacies of Black women writers like Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, and Maya Angelou.
