Carlos, originally from Guatemala, recognized the potential of his home country in the coffee industry and established the premium brand DARKS COFFEE in 2011, which gained recognition not only in Japan but also in Guatemala.

However, Carlos soon realized that there were deeper issues surrounding coffee production, such as the lack of traceability and fair trade practices. Determined to find a solution, Carlos developed a bicycle-operated coffee processing machine in 2017, which not only reduces environmental impact but also empowers small-scale farmers to add value to their crops. Today, with over 200 producers onboard, Good Coffee Farms exports their specialty coffee to Japan, where it has been widely embraced by customers and industry professionals.
