Google Open Source is a brand that embodies the philosophy and practice of open source technology. Open source is at the core of everything Google does, and the Google Open Source Programs Office (OSPO) has been at the forefront of this movement since 2004. Initially focused on enabling Google to build on open source technologies and sharing Google-developed technology under open licenses, OSPO has expanded its initiatives over the years.

OSPO runs multiple programs dedicated to improving the open source ecosystem as a whole. These include the Season of Docs program, efforts to enhance open source security, guidance on respectful language, code of conduct enforcement training, and more. OSPO also supports Google-led projects and has released some groundbreaking open source projects, such as Android, Chromium, and Go.

Furthermore, Google has collaborated with the Linux Foundation to establish the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, which hosts major projects like Kubernetes. In 2022, Google donated IstioMesh to the CNCF and applied for Kubeflow to become an incubating project. Throughout the years, Google's commitment to supporting open source projects, communities, and maintainers has remained steadfast.

Google Open Source is dedicated to promoting collaboration and innovation in the open source community, ensuring that open source technology thrives and evolves with changing times
