About CSEA Africa
GRAIN, or the Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network, is a collaborative consortium dedicated to bridging the gaps between gender equality and artificial intelligence in sub-Saharan Africa. Established by IPAR (Initiative Prospective Agricole et Rurale), CSEA (Centre for the Study of the Economy in Africa), and Sunbird AI, GRAIN focuses on addressing the pressing issues of gender disparity and insufficient data on gender-related topics within the AI domain.
The initiative aims to foster partnerships and collaborative efforts among universities, research institutions, and NGOs, encouraging the sharing of knowledge and resources on gender and AI. GRAIN provides a platform for organizations and individuals interested in these fields to engage in research, advocacy, and training activities, ultimately striving for inclusive and equitable development. With a commitment to intersectionality, GRAIN serves as a catalyst for promoting responsible AI policies that recognize and address the unique challenges faced by marginalized communities in sub-Saharan Africa.
