Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club is a volunteer-led diving club based in North Mayo, Ireland, bringing together people interested in scuba diving, snorkelling and coastal exploration. The club welcomes newcomers and experienced divers, offering opportunities to train, take part in regular activities and discover local underwater sites. Its dive locations include Kilcummin, Downpatrick Head, Creevagh, Achill, the Thames wreck and three sites known as the Shingle.
For people curious about diving, the club runs free Try-A-Dive sessions in swimming pools in Ballina and Castlebar. Participants must be at least 16 and comfortable in the water; some attendees go on to join the club’s trainee course. Members also keep active through weekly snorkelling and swims, and take part in events such as St Patrick’s Day parades and the Western Dive Rally, which the club will host in Kilcummin from 7 to 9 August 2026.
The club’s Search and Recovery Unit trains regularly and provides voluntary support, sustained in part by community generosity.
