Carnaval de Dakar

Carnaval de Dakar is a cultural festival in Senegal that celebrates the country’s heritage and the diversity of African cultures. Its seventh edition is scheduled for November 2026 under the theme “Dakar DJ!” (Dakar Danse la Joie!). The event brings together traditional arts and contemporary expression through parades, concerts, dance, music, theatre, film screenings and urban culture, including hip-hop, rap, slam, break dancing and graffiti.

Visitors can discover costumes, regional clothing and traditional masks, as well as Senegalese crafts showcased through exhibitions, sales and demonstrations. The Carnival Village offers performances, interactive workshops, food tastings and opportunities to explore the cultural traditions of Senegal’s communities. Local cuisine is a key part of the programme, including a communal Sunday serving of ceebu jën, Senegal’s celebrated fish and rice dish. The festival also features the selection of a Buur and Linguère, annual discussion forums on culture and development, and activities that connect artists, communities and visitors.
