The City of Grand Rapids presents GRow1000, an innovative youth employment program that empowers local young individuals aged 15-24. With the aim of addressing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and existing racial and economic disparities, City Manager Mark Washington initiated this program in 2020. GRow1000 has successfully placed over 800 young participants in rewarding and impactful positions at various businesses, non-profit organizations, higher education institutions, and government agencies.

Joining the GRow1000 program offers participants the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, explore potential career paths, and earn a competitive hourly wage ranging from $13. 00 to $15. 00.

The program runs for 6 weeks, providing a paid work experience of 120 hours. Employers from diverse sectors will mentor and expose the youth to real-world work environments, helping them build essential skills and create pathways for future careers. Applications for the GRow1000 program are currently open until May 8th.
