About GrapheneOS
GrapheneOS is a non-profit, open source project that offers a privacy and security focused mobile operating system (OS) with Android app compatibility. Founded in 2014 and formerly known as CopperheadOS, GrapheneOS is dedicated to the research and development of privacy and security technologies. They have made significant improvements to sandboxing, exploit mitigations, and the permission model to enhance the privacy and security of both the OS and the apps running on it.
GrapheneOS strives to maintain a seamless user experience while implementing these features, but also provides toggles for certain features like network and sensor permissions. They have contributed many of their past features to improve privacy and security in AOSP, Linux, and other projects. In addition to the OS, GrapheneOS has developed apps and services such as Vanadium, a specialized browser, and a minimal security-focused PDF viewer.
