About grasslanders.org
America’s Grasslands is a coalition of leading conservation organizations working to make grasslands a national conservation priority. The initiative raises awareness of these vital landscapes, which span the country and include Midwestern prairies, Southeastern pine savannas, Great Basin sagebrush steppes, and other regional ecosystems. Though grasslands support remarkable wildlife and diverse plant communities, provide clean water, and store carbon underground, they are among the nation’s most threatened and least protected ecosystems.
The coalition shares information about grasslands’ ecological importance and the pressures they face, encouraging people to support their conservation. Its website offers free, classroom-ready maps showing historic and current grassland coverage, alongside educational resources, reports, and stories from across the regions. Featured materials come from conservation partners including World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, National Audubon Society, and the Southeastern Grasslands Institute. Visitors can explore areas such as the Great Plains, Great Basin, Central Valley, and Southeast, and learn about wildlife, restoration, and the people connected to these working lands, including Indigenous nations and farming and ranching families.
