Founded in 1976, the Grayslake Historical Society is dedicated to promoting and preserving the pioneering history of Grayslake, Illinois, and documenting the village’s progress over more than a century. The society welcomes residents and visitors interested in learning about the community and its past through the Grayslake Municipal Historical Museum, exhibits, collections, and public programs.

Its offerings include educational outreach, special events, oral histories, and resources for family and local history research. The society’s archives feature materials such as yearbooks, local newspapers, veterans’ records, obituaries, cemetery information, and student projects. Visitors can also explore the museum’s annex and gift shop, take an archives tour, and consult genealogy resources. Archives access is available on Thursdays and by appointment.

The society shares local stories and updates through its newsletters, calendar, and online channels. It also collaborates with students on projects such as Curious Grayslake, a series of short videos answering questions about the town and surrounding area. The museum welcomes visitors during posted hours and at special downtown events.
