Great Carbon Valley is a dynamic project development venture and systems integrator, dedicated to leveraging the abundant resources of the Great Rift Valley for global decarbonization efforts. As an African Climate Ventures backed company, we focus on developing large-scale green industry projects and technical removals initiatives. Our mission is to create comprehensive industrial parks that provide complete solutions for energy-intensive businesses, enabling them to operate more efficiently and achieve net zero targets.

To achieve our goals, we collaborate with a network of stakeholders, including energy concession holders, carbon storage providers, and green industries. Our current flagship project involves piloting point-of-use geothermal energy-powered DACCS installations, which effectively capture and store carbon emissions. This innovative solution meets the increasing demand for high-quality, permanent carbon removal.

Our long-term vision is to establish DACCS-anchored industrial hubs across East Africa's Rift Valley, with the aim of capturing at least 1Mt C02 per year by 2030. In doing so, we hope to make a significant contribution to addressing the climate crisis and fostering the growth of a regional green economy ecosystem. We also strive to utilize the green energy infrastructure to power the expansion of our DACCS hubs and develop specialized industrial parks for heavy green industry applications, including green ammonia and synthetic fuels.

Why East Africa? The East African Rift Valley boasts a wealth of natural resources, ideal for the creation of a thriving DACCS ecosystem. The region offers rich continental flood basalt deposits, perfect for carbon storage, as well as untapped solar, wind, and geothermal energy sources, suitable for powering energy-intensive industries in an environmentally friendly manner. By transforming these assets into operational infrastructure, we aim to position East Africa as a globally competitive hub for climate action.

Timing is critical. As climate change continues to pose unprecedented threats, the need for carbon sequestration efforts has never been more urgent. To effectively combat global warming within the limits set by the Paris Agreement, it is essential to implement innovative Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) technologies.

By 2030, these technologies must achieve a 100-fold increase in annual carbon capture and an astonishing 2000-fold increase by 2050, in order to limit global warming below 1. 5°C, with minimal overshoot. The next decade will therefore be vital for the development and deployment of novel CDR initiatives.

Without substantial progress during this period, it may not be possible to deploy the necessary amount of carbon removal in the second half of this century.
