Founded in March 2020 as an emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Greater Action is a dynamic, volunteer-driven non-profit social initiative based in Bandar Baru Ampang, Malaysia. Powered entirely by a dedicated team of volunteers, we are committed to supporting marginalized Afghan refugee families who have been forced to flee their homes and rebuild their lives in Malaysia. Our mission is to support over 250 Afghan refugee families by providing access to quality education, sustainable livelihood opportunities, artist development programs, and essential healthcare services. Through community-centered initiatives, we aim to create pathways toward resilience, dignity, and long-term stability for displaced communities. At the heart of Greater Action’s work is women’s empowerment. Through sustainable skills training programs in culinary arts, up-cycled tailoring, and beauty, we equip vulnerable refugee women with practical skills that enable them to learn, grow, and achieve greater economic independence. These programs help women build confidence, support their families, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. We believe that empowering women creates lasting impact—strengthening families, fostering community resilience, and opening opportunities for future generations. Greater Action actively collaborates with organizations, ethical businesses, and partners committed to meaningful social impact. Through partnerships aligned with corporate social responsibility (CSR), ESG priorities, and sustainable development goals, we aim to expand opportunities and create sustainable solutions for refugee communities. About Greater Action
Founded in 2020 by Dr. Shazwan Sahabudeen and Ms. Julie Das, Greater Action is a non-profit social organization driven by a team of dedicated volunteers. Our mission is to enhance the lives of 250 vulnerable refugee families, with 90% of them originating from Afghanistan and the remaining 10% from Myanmar. We accomplish this through targeted programs and partnerships. At Greater Action, we believe in compassion, inclusion, and solidarity.
Our vision is to foster a self-reliant and skilled refugee community that is sustainable in every aspect. To achieve this, we provide these families with access to quality education, sustainable livelihood opportunities, and essential physical and mental health care services.
