The Global Electronics Council (GEC) is a mission-driven nonprofit working to make sustainable technology the standard in institutional purchasing. It aims to help create a world where only sustainable technology is bought and sold, using the influence of purchasers and electronics manufacturers to reduce harm to people and the planet. GEC manages EPEAT, a free ecolabel and procurement resource that helps professionals identify and select more sustainable products. Manufacturers can use the program to demonstrate that their products meet sustainability standards.
GEC provides access to the EPEAT Registry, product-category information, calculators, and resources such as purchaser guides, research, case studies, webinars, and sustainability impact overviews. Its programs include EPEAT Climate+, EPEAT for Solar, purchaser awards, training, and a Climate+ Leaders Program. The organization also supports purchasers and manufacturers through guidance, events, and opportunities to engage with its work. GEC’s focus reflects the environmental challenges associated with electronics, including resource consumption, climate impacts, and e-waste.
