Greifvogel-Auffangstation Hussong is a volunteer-run wildlife rescue station in Fürth-Oberfürberg, serving the greater Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen area and nearby districts. Led by veterinarian Dr. Rainer Hussong, it cares for injured and orphaned birds of prey and owls, including kestrels, buzzards, falcons and other species.
Birds receive veterinary treatment, appropriate feeding and rehabilitation, with the aim of returning them to the wild whenever possible. Young birds that need support are raised and later released; some long-term residents help rear orphaned chicks or contribute to breeding birds for release. The station also installs artificial nesting sites to improve breeding conditions for birds in built-up areas.
Its work includes coordinating rehabilitation and release, sometimes with support from veterinarians, firefighters, wildlife groups and local communities. As a small, largely one-person volunteer operation, the station cannot collect animals, so finders must arrange transport themselves. Injured or found birds can be brought to the veterinary practice by prior arrangement.
The station asks that inquiries be made by email, helping volunteers focus on animal care
