GRIHA Council

GRIHA is India’s national green building rating system, developed by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and adopted by the Government of India in 2007. The GRIHA Council is an autonomous, not-for-profit society that promotes and administers the development of sustainable buildings and habitats across India. Its rating tools assess projects against established benchmarks and thresholds, with systems tailored to residential, commercial, institutional, and hospitality developments. These frameworks support better environmental performance across design, construction, and building use.

The Council also offers certifications focused on specific sustainability themes, recognizing projects that demonstrate measurable positive environmental impacts. Its services extend beyond assessment to include workshops, seminars, webinars, and conferences that build knowledge and collaboration among industry professionals, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Through its Resource Centre, GRIHA provides guidance materials, case studies, research reports, technical manuals, and policy documents. Its Product Catalogue presents eco-friendly building products and technologies reviewed for sustainability performance, helping builders and developers make greener sourcing choices.
