Grimmke-Stiftung

The Ernst und Berta Grimmke-Stiftung is a charitable foundation that continues the social legacy of its founder by supporting scientific and medical research, particularly into heart and eye diseases. Since 1976, it has awarded funding more than 350 times, with a focus on helping early-career doctors and researchers advance promising work. Its research support can cover basic or clinical studies, postgraduate fellowships for researchers from abroad in Germany, and time-limited seed funding of up to 12 months.

Eligible projects may receive grants of up to €250,000. The foundation also supports social initiatives, including the Ernst-und-Berta-Grimmke-Haus in Düsseldorf and a specialist ALS care unit at Malteserstift St. Johannes XXIII in Hamburg.

Previously supported research includes the Gutenberg Prematurity Eye Study, development of a CTGF glaucoma model, research into GIP and septic cardiomyopathy, and studies of ceramides in aortic valve stenosis.
