About Gripen gard
Gripen Gard is a small farm in Frekhaug, Norway, run with a traditional, largely self-sufficient approach inspired by farm life in the 1950s. Its agricultural work is central to the business, including raising around 50 winter-fed Old Norwegian sheep and growing vegetables. The farm also works with wool and sells meat directly, with seasonal specialties such as pinnekjøtt and fenalår available to order.
To support its small-scale food production, Gripen Gard offers a range of rural experiences and services. Visitors can join courses and workshops in crafts and traditional skills, including wool sorting, spinning, plant dyeing, weaving and lefse baking. The farm also hosts events, farm visits, guided mushroom walks and other activities, and provides a venue for gatherings.
Accommodation includes two small cabins and a furnished lavvu on the island of Roseholmen, available with access to boats and fishing equipment. Gripen Gard also welcomes guests through Airbnb and WWOOF. The farm states that it is certified by Debio and Norwegian Ecotourism.
