Grizedale Observatory

Grizedale Observatory & Planetarium is a public astronomy destination in the Lake District, offering experiences for visitors of all ages and levels of interest. By day, guests can explore its purpose-built planetarium, hear an engaging talk and discover the meteorite collection, including space rocks visitors can handle. Visits typically last around 1.5 to 2 hours. Evening stargazing events begin with an introduction before guests learn to use telescopes and visit the observatory to see its robotic instrument in action. If the weather prevents suitable observing, guests can return for free on another evening.

Families with younger children can choose the Family Space Adventure, featuring a solar system talk, meteorite-room exploration and hands-on activities with rocks from space. A wider range of planetarium events is available for older children. The observatory also provides interactive education services for schools and groups, including daytime visits, private evening events and tailored activities.
