The Global Sustainable Finance Observatory (GSFO) is an initiative of UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) that supports the integration of sustainable development into the global financial ecosystem. Guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, it works to encourage a financial system in which sustainability is reflected in business models and investment practices. The Observatory promotes greater credibility, transparency, and consistency in sustainable finance, addressing challenges such as fragmented standards, complex disclosures, proliferating benchmarks, and sustainability washing.

It engages stakeholders across the investment value chain, including institutional investors, stock exchanges, regulators, standard-setters, data providers, and accounting and reporting bodies. Its resources include a sustainable finance policy monitor, a funds database, investor and asset-owner rankings, and a regulations platform. The GSFO also shares publications, news, and events, and collaborates with organizations such as the UN Global Compact, the Principles for Responsible Investment, UNEP Finance Initiative, IOSCO, and the World Federation of Exchanges
