In October 1987, Guam received International Olympic Committee recognition from IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch. The Guam Amateur Sports Federation merged with the newly created Guam National Olympic Committee to form a non-profit sports body.

About Guam NOC
The Guam National Olympic Committee (GNOC) is a non-profit sports body established in 1987 after receiving recognition from the International Olympic Committee. The GNOC is dedicated to promoting Olympism, a philosophy that embraces the qualities of body, will, and mind. They strive to create a way of life centered around sport, culture, education, and universal ethical principles.
As the peak sporting body in Guam, the GNOC represents the interests of sports on the island and enables Guam to participate in various international multi-sport events, including the Olympic Games. Guam has been participating in the Olympics since 1988 and has competed in every Games since then. The GNOC's executive board, consisting of members from the community, supports the development of athletes, international sports competitions, and community activities.
The GNOC relies on private sector and Olympic Solidarity support, with the Government of Guam providing logistical support during major events. With their mission to contribute to a peaceful and better world through sport, the GNOC plays a vital role in Guam's sporting landscape
