Gulag Online is a virtual museum created by the Gulag. cz organization to explore the history of the Gulag and Soviet repression through individual human stories, historical research and digital exhibits. Its collection brings together survivor testimonies, archival documents, photographs, explanatory texts and objects from prisoners’ daily lives, including bowls, footwear and handwritten diaries.
Visitors can explore a virtual reconstruction of a Gulag camp and use an interactive map, satellite images and archival military maps to trace abandoned camps along the Dead Road. The museum also presents profiles of people affected by imprisonment, deportation and political terror, alongside articles about major uprisings, deportations and the wider history of Soviet repression. A 3D tour is available as an optional site module, although the museum notes that it may require a strong internet connection and sufficient computer memory.
