Gunflint Mail Run

The Gunflint Mail Run is a sled dog race and community event celebrating the history of dog sledding in Cook County, Minnesota. Set amid the region’s boreal forests, lakes, streams, and snowy landscapes, the race honors a tradition shaped by the area’s remote northern setting. The event is a continuous race made up of two equal-distance legs, with a mandatory layover between them, and welcomes visitors to experience the race and explore the North Shore.

The organization provides race information, registration for mushers, rules, maps, results, and guidance for spectators. Its visitor resources include practical information on local gasoline, restaurants, and lodging, as well as details about volunteering and the area’s attractions. Supporters can donate, sponsor the race, adopt a mile of the trail, or purchase an official Mail Run neck gaiter. The Gunflint Mail Run also shares race history, mushing terminology, and fun facts, helping visitors connect with the region’s sled dog heritage.
