Gunnel Tjäder is a Kiruna-based craft artist and folk painter whose work is inspired by her home city, the Arctic landscape and the traditions of Tornedalen. Her practice brings together hand-printed wool textiles, design, wool and reindeer-skin craft, and commissioned folk painting. Through her online shop, customers can browse handmade home décor, art and practical accessories, including pictures, trays, blankets, bags, mobile-phone pouches, key cases and other small items.
Many designs feature Kiruna landmarks and northern lights, alongside motifs drawn from Tornedalen. Products are made in the artist’s studio and sold directly through the web shop, with a flat shipping charge of 49 SEK stated on the site. Selected work is also available at Ateljénord, a craft shop in central Kiruna that Gunnel runs together with a group of other craftspeople.
The shop offers a range of Arctic-inspired handmade goods, from useful everyday objects to unique artworks. Gunnel Tjäder is a member of the Swedish Crafts Centre and received the Ragnar Lassinantti Cultural Prize
