About Gurunanakdwara
Guru Nanak Dwara, the first Gurdwara in Arizona, is a vibrant spiritual campus located in historic Phoenix. Established in 1970, this sacred place continues to serve the community, providing a gateway to Guru Nanak, the founder and first Guru of Sikhism. Guru Nanak taught the value of equality among all human beings, a principle that is reflected in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Guru Nanak Dwara.
Attending Gurdwara Service at Guru Nanak Dwara involves following a few simple steps. Modest attire is requested as a sign of respect for the Guru's court. Removing shoes and socks is not only hygienic but also symbolizes leaving the outside world behind.
Wearing a head covering acknowledges the spiritual awareness within us. Cleaning hands and feet is viewed as a practice of purifying the body and spirit. Guru Nanak Dwara embraces a daily practice dedicated to health, happiness, and holiness.
This includes wearing the Bana Sikh Uniform, reciting the Bani Scriptures, engaging in continuous Simran Meditation, practicing selfless Seva Service, and studying the ancient Sikh martial art called Gatka. Additionally, Yoga and Union with the Infinite are emphasized. With a rich history, Guru Nanak Dwara was initially established as an Ashram committed to Sikhism and Kundalini Yoga.
Today, it fosters a peaceful and spiritual lifestyle, attracting individuals seeking peace, calm, and delight. The community's bonding activities, such as meditation, singing, cooking, and working together, create a supportive and nurturing environment. Over the years, Guru Nanak Dwara has grown and evolved.
The village-like community, surrounded by family dwellings, was established in the early 1980s. In 1996, a new structure was built to ensure a bright future for the community, blending the traditions of the East and West. This unique fusion of devotional practices, sacred scriptures, healthy living, and Kundalini Yoga makes Guru Nanak Dwara a place of peace and refuge for all.
