About 劇団グスタフ
Gustav Theatre Company, founded in 1994, is a prominent performing arts group based in Komae, Tokyo, dedicated to enhancing the possibilities of theatre and contributing to Japan's cultural landscape. Under the leadership of talented director Haruhiko Kakae and actress Saki Watanabe, the company has a reputation for producing emotionally impactful works that explore themes of life, death, and hope.
With a specialized theatre venue accommodating up to 100 spectators, Gustav offers a dynamic space for performances, combined with a spacious 7-meter high rehearsal studio available for rental. The company's artistic journey began with the production of August Strindberg's "Miss Julie," earning royal recognition from the Swedish Ambassador and reinforcing its commitment to cultural exchange, particularly through the annual presentations of Strindberg's works at the Swedish Embassy.
Gustav continues to innovate by fusing traditional Japanese performing arts with contemporary theatre forms, and actively trains young talents in the art of stage combat, ensuring a holistic approach to the future of theatre in Japan.
