The Gustav-Hacker-Stiftung is a German foundation established in 1981 to support education and training in agricultural professions, continuing the commitment of its namesake, former Hessian Minister for Agriculture and Forestry Gustav Hacker. Since 1982, it has promoted young people in Bavaria and Hesse who have chosen agriculture as their livelihood and excelled in their studies and personal engagement.
Its central initiative is the annual Gustav-Hacker Prize, a recognition and support award for outstanding graduates in agricultural sciences and related fields. Recipients are nominated by teachers and selected by the foundation’s board of trustees. The award is presented to graduates of the University of Kassel’s Department of Ecological Agricultural Sciences in Witzenhausen and relevant agricultural, horticultural, and landscape-gardening programs at the Agricultural Education Centre in Landshut-Schönbrunn.
The foundation’s work encompasses sustainable crop production, animal husbandry, food, ecology, environmental studies, and agricultural technology. It also welcomes donations to help fund the annual prize.
