About HabitatMap
HabitatMap is an environmental technology non-profit organization that focuses on building open-source, free, and affordable solutions for environmental monitoring and data visualization. With their tools, organizations and citizen scientists can measure pollution levels and advocate for equitable solutions to environmental health issues. Their central data visualization platform, AirCasting, along with its companion device, AirBeam, empower schools, researchers, community-based organizations, municipalities, and regulatory agencies to obtain real-time environmental data.
This data can be used to make informed decisions and craft evidence-based policies. HabitatMap's mission is to make technologies accessible so that communities facing disproportionate environmental burdens can advocate for equity and improved quality of life. Founded by Michael Heimbinder, an information designer and community organizer, HabitatMap has worked with numerous organizations and schools to create planning and advocacy maps.
With the AirBeam, communities can generate their own data and hold regulatory agencies and polluters accountable for pollution. HabitatMap's goal is to create healthier environments for all, resulting in better and longer lives
