Hamba Africa

Hamba Africa is a United Kingdom-based organisation offering wildlife-focused placements, conservation projects, and accredited training courses across South Africa. Its programmes combine hands-on conservation with travel and skills development, giving volunteers and students opportunities to work alongside local experts, ecologists, guides, and partner organisations. Participants may contribute to wildlife research and surveys, anti-poaching efforts, veterinary work, animal rehabilitation, and community projects, with activities involving species such as elephants, lions, rhinos, cheetahs, and reptiles.

The organisation also offers marine diving and shark and coastal research placements, as well as biodiversity expeditions and community volunteering. For those seeking professional training, its two-month Field Guide Course leads to a professional qualification. Placements vary in length, location, focus, and cost, and are designed to provide practical experience and transferable skills.

Some programmes include a travel week or optional activities, which may include safari drives, rafting, horse riding, or microlight flights. Hamba Africa says it works with local communities and established conservation groups to support sustainable, long-term wildlife protection while providing an immersive experience in South Africa
