The Hamburger Märchentage is a literary and cultural event that brings fairy tales to children and families across Hamburg. Held each November, the festival presents interactive readings in schools and cultural venues throughout the city. Its 23rd edition is scheduled for 9–15 November 2026 under the theme “Fairy Tales of Heroic Deeds and Magic,” with more than 60 interactive events featuring stories, magical encounters and fairy-tale creatures.
The festival also encourages young people to create their own stories through a fairy-tale writing competition for students in grades five and six. The organizers highlight how courage and magic inspire the pupils’ tales and invite audiences of all ages to enjoy the program. Alongside its live events, Hamburger Märchentage shares impressions from past festivals and showcases creative projects, including fairy-tale reading videos made by children. Participants are invited to submit their own reading videos by email. The organization also welcomes support for its work, and its website provides festival archives, information for supporters, contact details and an imprint.
