Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District

Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a public organization serving Hamilton County, Indiana, with conservation leadership and practical support for protecting and sustaining local natural resources. Established in 1968, the District works with residents, landowners, farmers, and communities through educational resources, programs, and services focused on soil, water, and habitat stewardship.

Its agricultural and conservation offerings include cover crop seed, drainage assistance, cost-share programs, stormwater permit support, soil testing, soil maps, and a tool loan program. Residents can also access well capping and well-water testing information, rain barrel sales, native plant kits and seasonal plant sales, and guidance on rain gardens, prairie creation, trees, and native landscaping. Urban conservation resources address stormwater maintenance, micro-irrigation, urban agriculture, and restoring native landscapes in homeowners’ associations. The District also provides invasive-species programs, including trade-in and removal initiatives, and operates the Hamilton County Invasives Partnership. Workshops, events, videos, and other learning resources help people take part in local conservation.
