Hanakagesho

Hanakagesho is a Japanese art dealer focused on handcrafted works that bring together practical use and artistic expression. Its three specialist divisions present contemporary netsuke, kimono accessories and small decorative objects, alongside a gallery for craft exhibitions. Nezu no Netsukeya offers netsuke by contemporary artists, as well as related books and accessories such as ojime.

Wakomono Hanakagesho sells artist-made obidome and obikazari for kimono, plus small works including sake vessels, lidded containers and sculptures. The Hanakagesho Exhibition Space displays and sells works across fields such as netsuke, sculpture, metalwork, lacquerware and ceramics. It holds around ten exhibitions each year, including events where visitors can meet artists and view their work up close.

Hanakagesho specializes in kōgei, a Japanese tradition that does not strictly separate art from craft, and features pieces that highlight the qualities of materials such as wood, metal, stone, horn and glass.
