About Happy Cities
Happy Cities is an urban planning, design, and research consulting firm that is committed to creating happier, healthier, and more inclusive communities. As a certified B Corp, they prioritize evidence-based approaches to transform ideas into actions. Their journey began with the question of whether understanding the impact of urban design on people's emotions and behavior could make cities happier.
This question led to over a decade of research and culminated in the bestselling book Happy City: Transforming Our Lives Through Urban Design by Charles Montgomery. Inspired by the book, Happy City was founded to translate its lessons into practical solutions. However, as they collaborated with city-builders, designers, planners, and researchers, they realized the need for new tools for change which prompted them to expand their curiosities across disciplines.
They incorporate insights from the science of wellbeing, as well as the experiences and aspirations of diverse communities. The firm now partners with cities worldwide, working together to make cities happier, healthier, and more inclusive.
