Stichting Harapan Jaya Nederland is a Dutch charitable foundation dedicated to supporting rehabilitation and assistance for people with physical disabilities in Indonesia. Its name means “Hope that overcomes.” Founded to provide financial and organizational support to the Harapan Jaya rehabilitation centre in Pematangsiantar, North Sumatra, the foundation broadened its mission in 2008 to support other Indonesian organizations working with people with physical disabilities. Support requests are assessed by the foundation’s board, and assistance is provided where possible. Although the initiative began within the Catholic mission, the foundation serves people regardless of religious or political belief.
The foundation currently provides ongoing support to rehabilitation centres Harapan Jaya in Pematangsiantar, Hidup Baru in Atambua, West Timor, and Caritas Dorkas on Nias Island. It also supports a cataract surgery project serving communities near Besikama, with operations at a hospital in Halilulik, West Timor. People can help by donating to the foundation. It publishes annual reports and provides information about its projects, activities, and ways to contribute through its website.
