The Haris Khan Foundation is a UK-based nonprofit organisation dedicated to raising awareness of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). The foundation grew from the experience of Haris Khan, diagnosed with SMA Type 1 in 2019, and his family’s campaign to secure access to treatment. Following public advocacy and representations from local and London MPs, Spinraza became available to Haris through the NHS, and he received his first dose in June 2019 at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. The foundation also shares information about SMA treatments, including Zolgensma, and the experiences of people affected by the condition.
Alongside awareness work, the foundation supports O.L.L.Y., a charity that helps disadvantaged children, and plans to work with the organisation, its founder Jean Taylor and volunteers to bring its services to Manchester. Its website provides news, videos, a gallery and information about supporters, helping visitors follow the foundation’s activities and learn about SMA. People can contact the organisation through its website or by email.
